What is Hospice Care?

Hospice care is a specialized type of care that focuses on providing comfort and support to individuals who are nearing the end of their life. The goal of hospice care is to manage symptoms of serious illnesses with limited life expectancy, as well as provide care and support to the patient and their family.

At PathWell, we stick to a holistic approach that addresses physical, emotional and spiritual support. Our team of healthcare professionals includes doctors, nurses, social workers, chaplains, and volunteers who work together to provide personalized care that meets the unique needs of each patient.

The right time for hospice

The Right Time for Hospice

One of the most common questions that people have about hospice care is when it is appropriate to consider it. Hospice care is typically recommended when a patient has a life expectancy of six months or less.If the patient’s illness gets worse, hospice care can be extended up to six months or longer.

If you or a loved one are experiencing any of these signs, it may be time to start hospice care as it can provide support and comfort during the final stages of life.

  • The patient’s illness is no longer receptive to therapeutic treatment intended for a cure.
  • The patient experiences frequent hospitalizations or emergency room visits
  • The patient is experiencing significant pain or other symptoms that are difficult to manage
  • The patient is experiencing a deterioration in physical/mental function or a diminished capacity to engage in daily life activities.
  • The patient has expressed a desire to focus on quality of life rather than curative treatment
